Rubber stamps have become the focus of a loyal following of hobbyists the world over and a fairly lucrative market has sprung up for rubber stamps ranging from wedding invitations to even using rubber stamps on t-shirts. Rubber stamping started as purely a way to increase the efficiency of businesses. You know those big “confidential” stamps you always see in the movies. Yeah those are rubber stamps. So what started as a way to simply mark products and business documents turned into an art form. A lot of artists have taken to designing their own decorative rubber stamps and some can get very elaborate and beautiful.
If you’re looking for a rubber stamp set to use for your art project then make sure you check out the sets of rubber stamps that are offered at any craft store. It’s almost always best to but rubber stamps in sets like this because it will reduce the cost of each stamp individually. Of course this doesn’t apply to rubber stamp collectors who like to get rare stamps individually. There are many kinds of rubber stamp sets to suit all kinds of needs. There are sets for weddings and wedding invitations, business rubber stamps, alphabet stamps and sometimes you can get bigger background rubber stamps to use for more elaborate projects.
My most recent use of rubber stamps was on my daughters wedding invitations. We contacted a custom rubber stamp company and had them design a classy looking stamp that we used for all our invitations. It looked great and most importantly my wife and daughter were very happy with the outcome (thank goodness because we might have blown way too much money had they gotten all nit-picky about it, which actually did happen with the pearl jewelry sets). We stamped all our invitations using a deep blue ink on rich creamy paper. I’m not an artsy guy myself (engineer by profession) but I have to say they did look nice.
Decorative rubber stamps are a great way to spruce up any art project and can become enriching art projects in and of themselves.
