What can you do with your favorite fortune cookie fortunes? Let’s think about this for a minute.
Small slips of paper, usually not substantial in the nature of the paper, fortune cookie fortunes can be decoupaged onto any wooden or papier mache form that can be decoupaged. A wooden box, with a Chinese red pain or red stain job, could hold a number of fortunes, and with the many clear coats added on top of the paper, any insect/food problem should be prevented. Using these fortunes where they will not be covered with a few coats of something can become a lure to insects. Something to think about.
There are long cylinder beads with words on them available, and this could be a use of the fortunes. After a basic long, narrow paper bead is made, the fortune could be glued on top, either with the words running straight along the bead or in a spiral. Give the bead a few coats of clear finish to seal the paper surface. Other beads of the same or similar size with colors could be combined with the fortune beads and all string into a necklace. Wearing it will give you a chance to share some of your favorite Chinese fortunes with friends.
You might be able to find large wooden beads with enough surface space to lay the fortune cookie fortune. Then the decoupage method could be used to apply the fortune paper and cover it for preservation.
Arrange the fortunes on pretty paper and laminate all to for a personal book mark or card to carry with you. Constant reference to your fortune is then possible, and a new one can be made when you get new fortune cookie fortunes. The sealing of the lamination will also prevent bugs if you are careful not to break the seal by cutting too close to the paper.
